GABRIELE CARNIGLIA,
CAPTAIN OF RJ

Gabriele Carniglia - Captain of M/Y RJ

“The owner had very precise ideas. We had already worked with him and we were confident we could meet his wishes for his new boat. It means we have been able to start from a privileged position in the interior design process,” Francesco Paszkowski says.

“I’m 42 years old and I’ve started my career as a Captain on large yachts 15 years ago,” says Captain Carniglia. He was born and grew up by the sea in villages such as Sestri Levante and Portofino where he spent his early years boating and fishing with his father and grandfather, taking summer jobs as a sailor and later on as first mate on a 105-footer Wally. While working in Portofino young Carniglia met his current Owner who had bought a gozzo (a Ligurian fishing boat). Twelve years later the same Owner asked Gabriele to become Captain of one of his yacht and since then he followed the construction of five new yachts built for the same Owner by Italian shipyards, the latest being RJ. Young, experienced and enthusiast Gabriele Carniglia is definitely very proud of the new yacht.

“I got in touch with Cantiere delle Marche for the first time at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2018. I got impressed by the quality of all technical spaces of the yacht on display. Engine room and technical areas were arranged in the best possible way: roomy, clean, with all equipment – top equipment - at hand. F or a Captain... a dream come true. I visited the yacht three times and even the most accurate inspection satisfied my expectations. Vasco Buonpensiere, the yard’s Sales Director, was extremely helpful and gave me all the information I needed to offer the Owner a precise and comprehensive report on the yacht. Two years later the Owner decided to purchase an explorer yacht built by Cantiere delle Marche. We had the chance to took over a project that had already started but that was still in a phase of its construction that allowed us a high degree of personalization. We started working on RJ in September 2019 and, despite the Covid-19 pandemic slowed a bit the construction process, the yacht was launched in January 2021 and ready for her summer maiden voyage. It has been very exciting to manage the technical aspects, make improvements, but perhaps the best aspect was the synergy that my team and I had with Cantiere delle Marche: the straightforward and collaborative attitude of this yard is not so easy to find elsewhere.”

RJ was Carniglia’ first experience in building a steel and aluminium yacht. “I enjoyed working on this project with such an experienced team. I had the chance to appreciate from inside the yacht’s robust construction, the quality of all equipment and systems. Now, with some thousands of miles of cruising in the Med, I can say that RJ proved to be a strong and reliable yacht with excellent navigation skills, extremely long range and stability and that she provides great comfort for our guests as well. Extremely efficient and reliable, RJ offers also an excellent manoeuvrability thanks to independent rudders that act as a stern thruster. Winches, windlasses, anchor chains are over dimensioned to grant the highest level of safety. Despite her elegant and sophisticate look, I can state that she he is a true explorer in all respects and we look forward to sail to the Fjords and then the Caribbean as soon as possible.”
