Darwin 107 Storm in Australia
Australia was one of the wonderful places the Darwin 107 Storm visited during her world tour that started on October 2023... and is still in progress
During her world tour, the Darwin 107 Storm crossed the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, exploring some of the world's most breathtaking and secluded archipelagos. Upon reaching Australia, the vessel made her first stop in Brisbane, a vibrant city known for its riverfront charm and cultural scene. From there, Storm continued her journey along the sun-kissed Australian coastline, navigating past golden beaches, rugged cliffs, and pristine marine reserves.
Eventually, the yacht arrived in Darwin, the tropical capital of Australia's Northern Territory, renowned for its rich Indigenous heritage and proximity to the wild landscapes of Kakadu National Park. After replenishing supplies and soaking in the region's unique atmosphere, they set sail once more, charting a course toward the enchanting islands of Indonesia, where new adventures awaited.
Read here below a short chronicle of the journey along the Australian coast by Captain Daniel Fischer, the very experience Captain of Storm
Our journey around the world took us from New Caledonia to Brisbane, where we made a technical stop at a shipyard to inspect some equipment after thousands and thousands of trouble-free miles. From there, we continued north to Cairns, where we spent a few days. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best season for diving, so we missed the chance to explore the underwater wonders. However, the town and its surroundings were well worth the visit. We then made our way slowly up the east coast towards the Thursday Islands. The local crayfish, freshly caught in these waters, was a true highlight. We also delved into the island's fascinating World War II history, gaining deeper insight into its past. Anchoring in waters inhabited by crocodiles and large sharks meant swimming was out of the question!
From there, we set course for Darwin, crossing the stunning channel leading to town (see video). Darwin itself is a beautiful destination, and as the first CDM explorer yacht on a world journey, we were proud to be the first Darwin Class yacht to reach Darwin. We thoroughly enjoyed the town and its surroundings. Our berth at the 'shrimp factory' marina, known as Duck Pond, placed us among colorful fishing boats. It was the only marina able to accommodate a yacht of our size, as smaller vessels used another marina while larger ones remained at anchor. The region experiences significant tidal shifts—up to six meters—so all marinas and ponds havelocks, and we were at the maximum size they could accommodate. I personally loved Australia and highly recommend it, especially during the right season when the Great Barrier Reef is truly spectacular.
I am extremely satisfied with the performance and build quality of the Darwin 107. This yacht was designed for world exploration and remote adventures, offering both reliability and comfort.
Kudos to CDM—an outstanding job. I'd choose this yacht again without hesitation!
