Marina Mirage Gold Coast

Paul Miletta and Domenico Giuffrè of CDM AUSTRALIA interviewed Matt Browning, MD of Marina Mirage, one of Queensland's most prestigious and renowned marina facilities.

PM: Can you start by telling us a little about Marina Mirage and its role in the yachting community here in Australia? What types of services and facilities do you offer at Mirage Marina to cater to yacht owners and their needs?

Matt Browning: The Marina Mirage, located in the heart of Main Beach just minutes from the Gold Coast Seaway, is one of Queensland's most prestigious and renowned marina facilities. With deep water access to the Broadwater, it offers 76 premium berths ranging from 12 to over 70 meters. The marina is known for its exceptional service. At Marina Mirage, we're all about providing a comprehensive, premium service. We offer a range of amenities like fuel docks, maintenance and repair services, secure docking, and state-of-the-art facilities. We've also got a variety of marine retailers, restaurants, and even private lounges for yacht owners to enjoy. Our marina is fully equipped to handle vessels of all sizes, and we pride ourselves on being able to offer both the luxury experience and a strong sense of community for boat owners. The marina also features convenient on-site services such as a marine concierge, as well as a health club, gym, and beauty treatments. With services including a helipad, and an on-site tour desk for adventure bookings, Marina Mirage is designed to meet every need for both leisure and luxury.

DG: The Gold Coast is often referred to as Australia's yachting paradise. What makes it such a prime location for boating?

Matt Browning: Yes, the Gold Coast is indeed a major player in Australia's yachting scene, and for good reason. We have a combination of factors that make it ideal. First, the weather is outstanding – warm, sunny days and relatively calm seas, which allow for year-round sailing. The Gold Coast is also blessed with beautiful waterways, including the Broadwater and the surrounding islands, which offer both incredible natural beauty and protected waters for safe cruising.

PM: Australia has a rich maritime history. How do you see the future of yachting here, especially with advancements in technology and sustainability?

Matt Browning: The future of yachting in Australia is incredibly exciting, especially as we see technological advancements and a growing focus on sustainability. There's a rising demand for electric and hybrid yachts, and the industry is definitely moving towards more eco-friendly practices. We're already seeing marinas incorporating solar power and better waste management systems, and we're actively looking at how we can reduce our environmental impact while continuing to deliver a top-tier experience. Additionally, new technologies are allowing for smarter yachts with advanced navigation systems, automated systems for operations, and improved onboard comfort. It's an exciting time to be part of the yachting community.

DG: What are some of the biggest challenges facing the Australian yachting industry today?

Matt Browning: One of the major challenges is the increasing demand for marina space. As the popularity of yachting grows, there's more pressure to develop infrastructure that can accommodate larger vessels while still maintaining the marine environment. Additionally, the cost of maintenance and repairs for vessels, especially for larger yachts, can be a barrier for some owners. Lastly, sustainability is a big topic. There is always the challenge of balancing growth and maintaining a healthy relationship with the environment. But these challenges also bring opportunities for innovation, which is exciting.

PM: Do you have any advice for someone interested in starting yachting in Australia?

Matt Browning: Absolutely! For anyone looking to get into yachting, my first piece of advice would be to start small and gradually learn about boating and navigation. Australia has some of the most incredible coastal areas to explore, and there's no shortage of support for new sailors. There are plenty of schools and courses to help get you certified and experienced. And, of course, always prioritize safety, whether you're out on the water for a short trip or a longer journey.
